Print Collection Evaluation ...

When working on this project I feel that my strengths lay in my prints and my weaknesses lay in my finishing’s as I could have put more work into them. As for time management I would say that I managed my time ok but could have managed it better. I made a timetable which I made on a weekly basis and planned my time week by week. I allocated my time to different areas of the project I had to concentrate on although I did feel that I got a but lost with time and spent far too long on some areas of the project. Throughout the project I felt very motivated and as the beginning I felt very motivated and had lots of strong ideas. I think that I felt as motivated as I did because I found what I was doing interesting and I was learning new things.  As for responding to advice I would say that I responded to it positively. New things were suggested which I responded to and I took new ideas onboard.  This didn’t always work but I did try. As for criticism I’d say I took it positively. If I hadn’t my work would have suffered. I would say that one of the stronger points of the project was my print designs. I spent a lot of time concentrating on this area of the project. I would also say my research was quite strong because I spent a lot of time concentrating on this as well. However I did make sure that I didn’t get lost with the research as this is a very easy thing to happen in the first process of the project. As for my weaknesses, I would say it was my development work. I could have done a lot more to develop the project and I could have taken a more experimental approach. I would say that my ideas development part of the project was quite strong and I had a good range of ideas to work from. As for resolving the final designs I found it quite challenging because I lacked in drawing work and found it quite difficult to create print designs from just photographic imagery. On future  projects I would like to try and manage my time better, I did make a time-table but I feel I need to come up with other ways to help manage my time. I have decided to present my work paper based on the form of a design portfolio and print out some of my designs at a larger scale to see how they would work life size. I feel that presenting my work like this will have a stronger outcome that if I present my work any other way and is more professional. I did want to digitally print my designs onto jersey, however I couldn’t access any jersey in the digital print room so rather than print on a different fabric I decided to print onto paper.

As for the testing part of the project, I contacted a number of designers and companies and asked them if they would be willing to look at my work and offer any feed back.  I also e-mailed a fashion editor and a fashion intern I have contact with. I had some very positive responses. and one company in particular said if my work fitted in with anything they were doing they would develop it for me. I also attended a meeting with the owner of a shop called ‘COW’. This gave me valuable insight and gave me valuable feedback on my work from this project. They liked my designs and I was told I could send my designs to the company and they would send me feedback, or if they designs fit in with anything they were doing then they would use them. I also entered my work into the ‘Threadless’ competition.

Overall I am very pleased with my collection of print designs. I feel that I managed my time very well and I feel that this has benefited my work.

DIY: Vintage Looking Bicycle Basket

vintage bicycle basket DIY shared by ridingpretty

(photo source: A Lemon Squeezy Home)

This one is really a good DIY for a making a complete bicycle basket. It is not just a simple liner for a pre-existing bicycle basket... it is an actual bicycle basket in and of it's self!

This DIY tutorial comes from A Lemon Squeezy Home. It is just so perfect, especially now with spring and all the flowers waiting to be bicycled home. Go to the DIY.

Hmmm. I think I'll make mine in a plaid or a tweed fabric with some flower rosettes...

Fashion, my bicycle...feeling chic, remembering Paris. Homage (especially) to the beret, to the shiny satin bow (worn on my pony tail and which by the way matches the ribbon trim on my dress) and well, to my old ex French boyfriend and his parent's Paris apartment. How beautiful those times were, enough to still get in my blood and inspire me to dress for the romance of my old memories. I don't know about you, but I do this all the time...
Besides my bicycle can bring out the best in me, and here's hoping your bicycle does the same for you!

p.s. there is a story to the last photo. I will follow up a with separate post and explanation soon my dears...

Spring 2010 The Look...

Viktoriya Sasonkina, Nimue Smit & Dorothea Barth for Barneys CO-OP | Spring 2010–The Look

I am loving this look for Spring! What do you think? Check out the rest of the campaign here.

Natasha Poly by Inez & Vinoodh ...

I love this shoot from Vogue Paris! At the minute I'm loving everything sandy! I love the desert setting and the prints are great. I think the prints are really exciting and something I would love to see more of this summer! However I'm not much of a fan of Natasha in this shoot. What do you think?

This shoot gets me excited for summer as I am going to be spending a couple of days traveling in the Sahara desert on my holidays! I can't wait! Hopefully I will get some great photographs! I need to start planning my wardrobe!

Tweed Ride Kansas City - Art Raffle- It's a Beauty!

XXXXXXXshared by ridingpretty
("High Societweed" by Kevin Nierman)

There is a lovely story behind how and why this amazing art work came to be. You see it all has to do with the Kansas City Tweed Ride...oh please just go exactly here and read all about it for yourself!

The original story (raffle part included) is better than any re-iteration I could possibly do in the telling of it. Honestly. So go there.

Thanks to Mark for sending this in!

Bicycle Lifestyle Musings

the selby bicycle photo shared by ridingpretty

Yesterday's post about Fergie's closet (and the bike she keeps in there) got me thinking. Surely there are more photos of people's living spaces in which a bicycle can to be found? Because, it’s amazing don’t you think to discover the visual clues that give insights into the lives people live - once a bicycle becomes a part of someone's life! It can be so inspiring!

Admittedly I am a visual person given over to often fantastical, beautiful imagery. I can’t help it. I swoon every time I encounter a photo of a life style that encapsulates the essence (in this case a bicycle lifestyle) that I see myself living - right now!

'Life' and 'style' photos of 'Fulvia Farolfi at home in the hamptons' via The Selby. Of course there is a bicycle included!

Maybe one of the reasons I love these bicycle lifestyle photos so much is because the surroundings remind me very much of places I ride around here in Santa Cruz. Plus I can't help but wonder if Fulvia makes a good bouillabaisse*?

Fergie- Bike in Closet

fergie bike shared by ridingpretty

Where would you keep your bicycle?
Not to detract from the lovely photo of Fergie--I marked up the photo to make sure the reason for this post was not lost on anyone. (Fergie's bike reminds me a little of a combination of these styles --here, here, here, and here). Amazing blinged out bike.... and where else to keep it stored other than your closet!

Madonna...NYC

3/19
I had the ultimate privilege of dancing with Madonna last night at SL Club in the Meatpacking District (I can officially check this off of my "Things I Want To Do Before I Die" list).  She was there on the 'hush-hush' auditioning dancers for her upcoming tour and—thanks to my boyfriend who was one of the DJ's invited to spin at the exclusive event—I got to get my groove on with her.  Unfortunately photo taking was strictly prohibited.  (The second I broke out my little Coolpix camera I was politely shut down.) Of course I managed to sneak in a shot or two (sorry Madonna, but I just HAD to). They don't do her justice, but believe me when I tell you she looked absolutely fresh-faced and fabulous—not much makeup and rocking a skin tight black and red minidress, black thigh-high boots and black fingerless gloves. My childhood dream....come true!

Madonna gettin' into the groove on the dance floor. She definitely still does her thing.

Earlier that evening I went to a screening at Saturdays Surf in SoHo of the short documentary Grain Surfboards. A few stylish guests...
