Here are a few images of my work from the Manchester Metropolitan University degree show. The initial inspiration for this work came from the idea of celebrating British Culture. The visual concept for this work came from Britain, which was be explored through visual imagery in a modern, contemporary and feminine way. The idea of reviving British traditions and traditional summer past times played a huge part in the inspiration of this work. I wanted to celebrate British culture and heritage through my work. I created a a number of collections of digital print designs for womenswear fashion.

Hair Styling Inspiration...

 

 

I am doing a photo shoot next week as part of my current project to showcase my print designs on garments so I have been looking for inspiration for the hair for my models. I love plaits and would love to do something very feminine.

McQueen & I...

I watched the documentary 'McQueen & I' the other night, and I found it very inspiring! It documented the relationship between McQueen and his muse, Isabella Blow and featured rare footage of McQueen and interviews. McQueen started from nothing and became one of the best British fashion designers of all time and that is really portrayed in this documentary! Beautifully footage.

Styling...

 

Yesterday I learn't this new technique for art styling. This was just a practice and I definitely plan to use this technique in my final work to style my designs. The image above is the original unedited photograph, I then used Adobe Photoshop to overlay my designs onto it. I really like this effect and it is a great way to style my work. This was only my first go at this technique and I could do with a little practice as it isn't 100% perfect just yet. 

I am looking to collaborate with photographers and models, if anyone is interested and is in the North West of England please contact me and I'm sure we can work something out :)

Work In Progress...

This is just a little of what I have been working on this week. I have been developing a lot of imagery I can work from to then develop into print designs for my first collection of this project and I have now started to use the imagery to create print designs. The three designs featured above are all half drop repeat prints, I feel that they work quite well but they are not completely accurate. I still need to do a lot more drawing for this collection, and re-visit my research to find new and interesting imagery I could use. The inspiration for this project is about celebrating British Culture in a floral and feminine way. This first collection is going to be very subtle taking inspiration from the English country side and British Wildlife. What do you associate with British culture?
