On the 17th of May Norway is celebrating the National Day. Maybe we haven't been in all the countries in the world on their National days, but I guess not every country can boast such national happiness and party-in-the-air day. If you describe 17th of May in a few words, it must be - joy, kids (and not only) with Norwegian flags, school music bands, ice-cream and hot-dogs, parties and unusual amount of people in the streets all in folk costumes. Yes, yes, people, actually use them (and quite widely) for special occasions like weddings, baptisms and, of course, 17th of May. There is something amusing and fascinating about watching people passing by looking all cool and fashion forward (hair, sunglasses) on the background of a modern city in old-fashioned clothings.
Some facts for those who are more of the 'nerd' type: the Norwegian folk outfit both fro men and women are called 'bunad'. These are based on the original clothing used by women and men in Norway in the 19th century and come in different styles and colors depending on the region they are from.

This one the national look for the 'russ', youth finishing their high school. They are going around in similar pants for about a month and doing hard-to-comprehend-why stuff:) But 17th May is also their big celebration day, so we had to post a picture of them as well.
We did try to identify the bunads, but it was confusing, and as people wiser than us say, better say nothing than a wrong something. So we are not commenting the types and hoping you enjoyed looking at all those different, beautiful dresses and maybe were inspired to get one for yourself? We are! The question is: should it be a Norwegian or an Armenian one?
