If you ask us if we have a style icon. A long chain of names comes to mind of friends, famous people and just people we see in streets, that inspire us, but there is only one person that can be considered a style icon for us and probably millions of others - Audrey Hepburn. One of the biggest movie actresses of all times and biggest style icon (ask us) said: ''I never think of myself as an icon. What is in other people's minds is not in my mind. I just do my thing.''
Probably it was the fact that she was doing her thing made her an icon, so different from everyone else.
Funny thing that just as her personality, style and biography, her origin is neither one dimensional. Born in Belgium, the actress has belgian, british, dutch and austrian ancestry, and has spend her life traveling the world with home in 4-5 European countries. A biggest movie star, has at some point of her life stopped her movie career to pursue other passions in life - family and humanitarian work.
But this post is about the style icon Audrey Hepburn, who started as a talented balet dancer, but left in on time to become a broadway actress, and later to star in one of the biggest movies in her career, the Roman Holidays alongside Gregory Peck. Ever since then Audrey has enjoyed international fame and recognition not only for her roles, but also her unique style, becoming an icon of decades.
The biggest event for Audrey Hepburn´s life when it comes to style, is meeting with the designer Hubert de Givenchy. The great couturier created and guided most of the actress´ style. As she later says, ''He (Givenchy) has always been the best and stayed the best. Because he kept the spare style that I love.''
The actress had also long term friendship and partnership with Salvatore Ferragamo who created a shoe for her. A few years ago, if we are not mistaken, there was even en exhibition organised by the fashion house dedicated to the actress.
We have read somewhere that the black dress worn by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany´s (also created by Givenchy) was auctioned for about a million dollars. And the money went to charity that the actress supported.
Audrey Hepburn has graced several fashion magazine covers (ever since the times when Harpers Bazar cost 60 cents:).
Audrey Hepburn always remained the radiant elegant actress. Here with President Reagan in 1981.
Now the challenge in this post: who you think is more beautiful of these 2 photos? An extraordinary Audrey Hepburn in her 20s or another extraordinary Audrey Hepburn at the age of 60? We honestly cannot decide. Maybe it´s simply the cliche law of inner beauty, the one that never stops shining, even through wrinkles...
