Paris Haute Couture Spring Summer 2012: best picks

These days in Paris the fashion world are following breathless the Haute Couture collections for Spring Summer 2012 of the biggest names among the biggest in fashion. Experts, journalists and those who are going to use these pieces gather in Paris to judge, have fun and be amazed. We, on the other hand, look through things on our screens, get excited or stay unimpressed, yet also judge. It's up to you to judge if we have the right to judge (sorry for tautalogy:), but here we are:) We post a summary of our impressions, and what we liked from what we have seen:)

First comes Chanel, well very much Chanel! Elegant, monochrome, masterly implemented and a touch of something else which was all about styling. The models wore big, we could even call it horisontal hair with beautiful hairpieces and sported big smokey eyes. This added a fresh touch of rock-chic to the otherwise classical, even conservative pieces.

But what is probably most worth mentioning is the amazing staging of the runway. It was set as a plane interior with small round windows, blue carpets and emergency lights. Creds for creative approach for everything and imagination invested in every detail!

Giambattista Valli is quite new in the Paris Haute Couture at least with his own brand - his debut was just last year. Yet he has earned reputation and respect among the iconic fashion houses. It is said that Valli is a firm believer that fashion is culture, and you see it from his works. Elegance with a twist, impressive silhouettes. Thumbz up!

Dior have we picked up for the classical looks and pieces that we could see ourselves in. Classic a la New Look, a feast for eyes with beautiful materials and patterns. We don't like the word feminine, but these looks can be called feminine in the full positive meaning of the word.

Elie Saab, the Lebanese designer is the uncrowned king of the gala gowns. Colours, details, material, cut, glitter and lace, everything present in an amazingly perfect harmony. Elie Saab, can u make a dress for us? Which we can put on every evening before sleeping and feel stupidly, but endlessly happy...

Not only presented Givenchy most different and rough Haute Couture collection in Paris, it also boasted a most unuasal choice of runway. It was simple sportshall with all small details present in any similar hall. Extremely cool and such a screaming contrast to the strict, dark eleganse of the Givenchy creations.

Jean Paul Gaultier, the master to amaze and surprise was a trifle too ordinary this show, we think. A strange mix of Amy Winehouse gone Jean Paul Gaultier... Hmm...

But the hair styling and make-up is absolutely worth observing.

Have a nice evening people,

:*
